Tuition for Children

The Dyslexia Association can provide individual tuition for children and teenagers. All tutors are qualified dyslexia specialist teachers.

The Helpline at TDA receives many calls from anxious parents, who feel that they are not getting any/enough support in school for their struggling child. Parents clearly understand their children best and are often the first to realise that something is not adding up.

"Why can my child talk in depth about dinosaurs, yet put nothing onto a piece of paper?"

This is the sort of question, which triggers the parent into ringing the Helpline to ask if their child may be dyslexic. We always recommend in the first instance that the parent goes to the school SENCO for help, but often the parent is still left not knowing if dyslexia is the cause of their child's difficulty. The common reply is: "We don't like to label children." Well, we believe at TDA that the "label" can be extremely helpful in understanding the nature of the child's difficulties and more importantly their strengths. It certainly does not have to have negative connotations.

About Tuition at The Dyslexia Association

We offer tuition programmes for children and teenagers. These will be carried out by qualified specialist teachers, in a 1:1 setting. The child's programme will be specially designed to address individual needs and to build on individual strengths. It may include work on basic literacy and numeracy, reinforcement of topics causing difficulty at school and study skills tuition to help young people to develop their own strategies for efficient learning.

The details of where and when will be discussed with the parents to guarantee the least disruption for the child and good liaison with the school.

To discuss your needs, contact our Helpline on 0115 924 6888.

We currently have tuition sessions available on Saturday mornings and Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday afternoons.
