Assistive Technology Training

It is now possible to access a wide range of hardware, software and handheld devices to help people with dyslexia to make the most of their abilities. This sort of equipment is called 'assistive technology', and it includes items such as:

  • Text-to-speech software which reads text from a computer screen, helping the user to understand written material and to proof read their own work.
  • Mind mapping software which helps the user to plan work.
  • Speech recognition software which allows the user to 'talk' to the computer.
  • Scanning software and hand held devices which allow the user to store and listen to text in book and other paper-based media.
  • Spell checkers software and hand-held devices
  • Digital Recording devices
  • PDAs to help with time management and calendar planning.
