Support for Schools

All schools want to make good provision for their pupils, and an understanding of 'best practice' in teaching pupils with dyslexia can help them to achieve this goal. Dyslexia Friendly policies can help schools to ensure that the basic needs of dyslexic pupils are addressed in their planning for all pupils.

Certain minimum standards are imposed by law:

  • Under the Education Act (1996), state schools in England and Wales are required to "identify, assess and make provision for" their pupils' special needs, which may include dyslexia.
  • All schools have a duty under the Disability Discrimination Act, not to discriminate against pupils or potential pupils who may be disabled by dyslexia.

The Dyslexia Association can provide tailor-made presentations to schools on how to improve their provision for pupils with dyslexia.

To discuss your needs, contact us by telephoning our Helpline on 0115 924 6888. We will arrange for our dyslexia consultant to call you back for a more detailed discussion.
