A dyslexia screener is a first stage in seeing whether a person may have dyslexia.
The screener we use for adults is called QuickScan®.
It is available online or in our office (where we include an advice session).
Please call the Helpline on 0115 924 6888 for more details or to arrange a screen.
The screening is made up of about 100 simple questions.
You will be asked what you would do in different situations or how you feel about the way you do various types of activity.
You will not be asked to solve problems. It is not a threatening 'test'.
You will be asked to click a button to select your answer to each question.
The result will not depend on how fast you answer the questions, but most people take between 20 and 40 minutes.
What will the screener tell you?
When you have finished, your answers are put together to work out:
- Whether your answers point to possible dyslexia
- If there were many signs of dyslexia, or just a few.
- What style of learning is likely to be most natural for you.
- Whether you show signs of some other difficulties, such as visual stress.
The screener cannot diagnose dyslexia.
It may help you to decide whether or not to proceed to a full dyslexia assessment.
A definite diagnosis of dyslexia can only be made as a result of a full and formal assessment by a specialist in the field.
